Really, we need to get back to the origin of the zombie, born out of the African-American fear that even in death they would be forced to work endlessly, allowed no rest even until the end of the world (another interpretation is that the zombie was a reflection of how the slaves viewed their own condition).
There was a horror story written recently in which a man is being given ever longer hours at work, ever shorter breaks until he cannot remember when he last saw his home. It is gradually revealed during the course of the story that he has been dead since the start.
Naw. It’s because they’ve hit on a group of enemies you can kill anyway you like and as much as you like and it’s OK. Zombies are the new robot army.
True – but it could have been werewolves, vampires, or aliens. Zombies won the pop-culture popularity contest.
